Hi Tev, Since you are persistent …. if I may hazard a guess….nay two guesses.
As this is also called the ‘Gunpowder tree’, it follows then that its ripe black fruit look like ‘golis’ [bullets]. Its ripe fruit also look like Bombay Black – a crude form of marihuana, available as round balls called ‘golis’. What about the "gol" in gol gappa, would that meaning correlate to the dish in some way? The correct local Marathi (language of the state in which Mumbai is located) is Ghol. The word Ghol normally means confusion, misunderstanding, etc. Why the tree is called that needs to be found out. Maybe because the male/female flowers are mixed up? As Neil wrote, presently anybody's guess. Hope to find out. cheers -shyam --- On Thu, 2/3/11, tev treowlufu <[email protected]> wrote: From: tev treowlufu <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ButterflyIndia] Cat n food plant fr id (Nagla 31Jan11) Blaise To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, February 3, 2011, 2:41 AM Interesting information.
