Hi Vazrick,
I used to do some mangrove and sea grass work in SE Asia. When on the
inter-tidal mudflats, I would also be on the lookout for any
butterflies/moths related to mangrove habitats. But rarely saw this
phenomenon.

Once I remember seeing a solitary Short Banded Sailor glide through the
mudflats back and forth from the shore to the sea again and again. It
flew just centimetres away from the the water and sipped sea water once in a
while. This was in Koh Yao Yai (South Thailand) in Feb 2011.

Never seen a puddling congregation near the sea though. Just individuals.

Cheers,
Anuj
