I have an update on the Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail, since so many of you
have contacted me off-group for more information.  Dr. Krushnamegh Kunte
(Harvard) has completed his research project on the Papilio
glaucus/canadensis/appalachiensis species group and his paper has been
accepted for publication, though it won't be published until after August.
The Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail (or "Appy" for short) is believed to be a
rare case of "hybrid speciation" between two parent species (Eastern and
Canadian Tigers), resulting in a fully-viable species (not your standard
hybrid).  But I'll let you read Dr. Kunte's summary yourself.  Follow this
