If my memory serves me right, Kwanza is a Swahili word meaning first or before.
I may be wrong since it has been over 50 years since I have spoken Swahili.

Anyone know the significance of this word to Christmas/New Year? Christmas and
Hanukkah are based on religious events. Is there a religious event associated
with Kwanza?

Just curious.
