Has anyone else noticed the PL tone seems to... not matter? I say this because whenever the PL tone issue gets fixed, people who may THINK they have it working today on their HT/Base, may find out they have the wrong PL tone when it gets enforced.
I noticed this because I happened to be in my wife's car today and using my old radio that lives in her car. I forgot which channel I programmed for the 146.880MHz* WR5AAA* repeater and tried all the channels I had programmed for that frequency (there are about 5 146.880 machines, including W5APX PL100.0Hz within about a 100 mile radius of Houston and I filled my radio with every repeater in that range). They all worked, so tonight at home I tried transmitting NO PL on my base station, and (unless I'm delirious) it seemed to work just fine. Hopefully, that gets fixed (we don't want a random bit of noise or traffic from other repeaters on 146.88MHz to key OUR repeater). But when it does get fixed, some people who thought they had it right may suddenly find their radio not working. Also, sorry Glenn.... I'm probably the only net controller who still mentions the COVID thing. I try to be clear that it's for historical reasons related to its creation, not because we're all still locked in our homes LOL. Maybe if I get yelled at enough I'll stop, but I like to pay homage to why Big John started the net.
