Mark, you’re welcome. ARRL used to bring stacks of various maps with them to hamfests but I havent seen them in years. This one was likely from one of my Dayton trips in the 90’s.
And yes, people get vanity calls for many different reasons and those are uniquely individualized. When I lived in Memphis i had 2 friends who got N2 vanities for their hobbies. One guy worked at the local police academy as an instructor and he got N2WMD because he was into weapons of mass destruction at work. When i got licensed, several friends got the “new” A2x2 Advanced Class calls organically (AA4UK, AB5BC, AB5BL [SK]) and I decided I wanted to get one too. When I was filling out my paperwork when I passed my Extra, I almost checked the box to get the next organic A2x2. I had checked the morning of my exam (scheduled for 6pm) and there was a high likelihood I could have gotten AD5DX but in hindsight I actually would have gotten AD5DY, a swing and a miss. Still would have been fine. So 8 years later I pulled the trigger on my AC5CM vanity. I'm a native Texan and because of my last name, Triplett, I decided to get a 3 call sign. In the almost 2 years, I've had it, I've only had 1 question about what part of Pennsylvania I'm from. It doesn't seem to be as big of a deal these days, I would think, due to things like QRZ where you can look up info very quickly. I believe Blake, one of our BVARC Board Members, had this problem when he was first licensed and immediately applied for a 6 vanity call. _______________________________________________ Brazos Valley Amateur Radio Club (BVARC) 🌐 Website: https://bvarc.org 🤝 Get Involved: https://bvarc.org 💡 Suggestions: https://bvarc.org/home/suggestions 👥 Member Roster: https://bvarc.org/roster.php Unsubscribe or Change Settings: https://bvarc.org/home/club-listserver/ _______________________________________________
