Indeed, very productive. One thing that helped was that for the first
time we used the shop machine that Theresa created to clone Debian
images. In addition to the 17 student boxes, Sean helped create the
foundation of an ssh, dhcp, and http-proxy server. This will
(hopefully) allow for faster responses for IP addresses and common web
pages. Lastly, Dr. Walter found an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
that seems to work. So, in the near future we should be able to
rearrange the networking so that the DSL modem, firewall, and
ssh/dhcp/http-proxy server are all on the UPS in the cabinet in the
basement.
A few things need to happen before we realize that setup:
1) configure the cabinet to hold the equipment
2) install the UPS
3) rerun the phone and network cables for the DSL modem and firewall
4) install the DSL modem and firewall
5) install the ssh/dhcp/http-proxy server
6) turn off the dhcp service on the firewall
7) turn on the dhcp service on the server
I'm aiming for Wednesday evening. I'll e-mail later to confirm.

Another option, albeit undesirable, is to try ndiswrappers with the
winmodems. Of course, we'll still need to find the Windows drivers.

If you need anything from us, please do not hesitate to write.
Good luck.
