I believe robert has all ready gone offline for his eye surgery. Could someone 
please explain to me what a thumbdrive is?

Those are floppies and are notoriously unreliable. For future portable
storage, you may want to consider a USB thumbdrive or even on-line
storage like http://box.net/ .

As for the floppy, this is a great example of a service we could offer:
data recovery. What tools would folks here use? My personal favorites
would be dd, dd_rescue, or ddr_help run under Knoppix or other Linux flavor.
