Makes sense.

To verify the steps, I went through them this evening, installing a
Debian system within a virtual machine.  Worked pretty nicely.  The
final filesystem size was under 2.5 GB, including the 200 MB swapfile.

Also,  after configuring the system for a student the size of
/home/student is only 3.2 MB, which compresses to <400k.  So, we should
probably make a complete backup of it (e.g. /root/bworks/student.tar.gz)
in case we get some creative students who trash their home folder or
mess up kppp.

BTW, kppp settings are stored in ~/.kde/share/config/kppprc with
username and password in clear text.  :(
