Hi,
In the past couple of weeks we've made good progress in fixing
various build issues in the 3.0.0 code base. The build matrix is
slowly turning green, with all the platforms that were known to
fail before (e.g., AIX, Solaris, Cygwin/Mingw) are now building
and passing the tests:

I would therefore like to cut and publish a source code-only beta
with the primary goal of letting all interested parties test the
new build system.
Here is my +1 for the beta.
