I really don't see how there's any possibility of this being done unless you
have a patch to contribute, and even then the risk to the code base would
require more review resources than exist.
If your industry really needs this code base to be viable, you would have to
supply a number of experienced C++ programmers to maintain it. It's barely on
life support now.
