After a really long 3 month hiatus from e-mail, I'm back. I've been saving a bunch of messages to reply to from since late October, so bear with me as I reply to them.
For those wondering what I've been doing for the past three months, well, heavy-duty testing of VerifyMyPC v2.0 and VerifyMyPC Advanced v2.0, MyProBB v1.0, and web content. Lots of web content. I've been telling everyone I run into to install VerifyMyPC (see my signature below). I constantly get asked to fix people's computers (I oblige and they pay me my hourly rate). With VerifyMyPC (written in C++, of course :), I just have to check the last couple days worth of changes when someone asks me to fix their computer...and it takes 5 minutes instead of my usual 1 to 2 hours to figure out what's wrong. That saves them a bunch of money and I can get back to programming sooner. What's funny is that I spent almost 6 months on what I perceived to be performance issues. I assumed that my computer was the baseline average user computer. That's a faulty assumption, BTW. I've done real-world testing in the last 3 months and I can safely say that my dev. machine is in the top 1% in terms of installed apps. and comes nowhere near the average user's PC. I could have had VerifyMyPC out the door 3-4 months ago had I bothered to do some real-world testing sooner. That said, the current incarnation is well over 5000% faster than it was even 6 months ago. And I didn't have to resort to assembler or low-level C...just pure C++ code. Some food for thought. Never assume your computer is like the average user's but don't go overkill like I did and assume the average computer can't handle the app. until you actually test it. I guess it goes both ways in some cases. -- Thomas Hruska CubicleSoft President Ph: 517-803-4197 *NEW* VerifyMyPC 2.0 Change tracking and management tool.
