I think your best bet is to get some reference books on the
mathematics behind 3D space and computer graphics. There are plenty of
them out there (I see one on my reference shelf entitled _Mathematics
for 3D Game Programming & Computer Graphics_, by Eric Lengyel, for
instance). The topic is abstruse enough to require some research --
far more than can be explained in an email.
I suggest taking a look at some libraries already in use, like OpenGL
or SDL, even if you don't want to use them. They can be educational in
how such a library is organized and used.
