I don't use VS so much for its editor (I use Visual Assist X to make life bearable) but more for its debugger. The VS integrated debugger is superior to gdb and everything else out there*. * With the possible exception of Numega/Compuware SoftICE - but it costs an arm and a leg. I think I'd spring for the Intel compiler LONG before I ever thought about getting that.
