how does chris mentioning removing the registry lead to IPC?
there's no point in using process lists or anything else, for that matter, if 
the OP can just do it right and remove the key from the registery

  This is an interesting and useful digression, however. IPC in general, 
  whether through mutexes, semaphores, lock files, sockets, or some other 
  mechanism is genuinely useful and important to learn for someone not 
  familiar with it.
