Others posted links to guides, tutorials, etc. but after a decade in the software industry (yeah, I'm young at 30, I'll get off your lawn) my advice is very simple. Find a good IDE. Set up formatting rules you like. Use the autoformatter. I never code caring a whit about my style or formatting. I simply code what I can, hit the format short cut. I let the software development tool handle the mundane details. I spend my time creating and designing complex object-oriented designs -- why should I waste time worrying about tabs v. spaces or curly brace alignment? FYI this approach is vital if you work on a team. I have about 15 people committing to the same repository. I simply commit the formatting settings, and instruct everyone to use them. Instant consistency. -- John Gaughan http://www.jtgprogramming.org/
