Hi,
This is a perfectly good question so I will put on the "career advisor" hat for 
a moment.  I cannot do justice to the "software career" field in a short post.  
I can generalize a few things and in particular the motivation people sometimes 
have when going into SQA.  Many people feel daunted by the challenges of 
writing software and for good reason as software development is very 
challenging.  Wanting to basically get a job people will go into a peripheral 
career that is related to software development.  Working in SQA can really lock 
you into a career path so some research and personal career evaluation is 
important.  SQA is an important part of a total product approach where the 
emphasis is more on the customer than the code.  Keep in mind that not all SQA 
is the same in all companies.  Some software support jobs really ring out the 
installation and run-time stuff, and others are just paper mills.
