Hi,
This is a perfectly good question so I will put on the "career advisor" hat for
a moment. I cannot do justice to the "software career" field in a short post.
I can generalize a few things and in particular the motivation people sometimes
have when going into SQA. Many people feel daunted by the challenges of
writing software and for good reason as software development is very
challenging. Wanting to basically get a job people will go into a peripheral
career that is related to software development. Working in SQA can really lock
you into a career path so some research and personal career evaluation is
important. SQA is an important part of a total product approach where the
emphasis is more on the customer than the code. Keep in mind that not all SQA
is the same in all companies. Some software support jobs really ring out the
installation and run-time stuff, and others are just paper mills.
