Hi, XML is really a complex data interchange format. I do not know google protobuffer. If you just need a simple, text-based, human readable, fast, compact, easy-to-use data interchange format take a look at JSON: http://www.json.org
JSON is not suitable for describing complex documents but it is really very easy to use.
