Specifically, which Borland compiler suite are you using?  Can you use a 
different suite.  The members here don't recommend and Borland product 
for learning the language.  Visual Studio Express 2008 and wxDev-C++ are 
really the best starting points and Visual Studio has the far superior 
development environment.

(I finally installed wxDev - good freebie tool, especially for 
cross-platform GUI development, but the wxWidgets portion kept crashing 
and doing weird junk - probably because the IDE is written, ironically, 
in Delphi).
