Felix,

While your statement is correct and running cactus has nothing to do
with server.xml and has more to do with a properly configured web.xml,
this is not the problem at hand.

Sujeet is trying to use the <cactus> ant integrated task which (when
coupled with the <tomcat5x> nested element) creates a temporary location
for the container and tomcat config, creates a server.xml,
tomcat-users.xml and web.xml in the conf folder, deploys the cactified
war/ear to the webapps directory, starts the tomcat server, and executes
the tests.

As I stated earlier, the <tomcat5x> nested element of the <cactus> task
has a default server.xml it uses which seems to not be appropriate for
tomcat-5.5.x installations and thus tomcat-5.5.x does not start when the
<cactus> task tries to start it.

Regards,
Doug

Tomcat server.xml has nothing to do with running cactus. You have to
make sure that cactus servlet redirector is defined in web.xml,
otherwise servlet engine won't be able to run any cactus based classes
deployed in war file.

Felix

Here is a server.xml for tomcat-5.5.x by the way which is modeled (and
slightly changed) after the default 5.0.x server.xml that cactus uses in
the <tomcat5x> task.

Sujeet,

In my experience the <tomcat5x> task does not support tomcat 5.5.x
because the server.xml format for tomcat changed slightly since tomcat
5.0.x. That said, you can a workaround it by creating your own
server.xml for tomcat 5.5.x and pointing the <tomcat5x> task to it via
the "serverxml" attribute. Please see the below example;

        <tomcat5x if="cactus.home.tomcat55x"
            dir="${cactus.home.tomcat55x}" port="${cactus.port}"
                serverxml="${src.conf.dir}/tomcat55x/server.xml"
            output="${target.testreports.dir}/tomcat55x.out"
            todir="${target.testreports.dir}/tomcat55x"/>

Cheers!
-Doug

Subject: Unable to run cactus tests on Tomcat 5.5.23(Urgent help

Hi,

  I am trying to execute cactus test cases using an ant build script. I
am using jakarta-cactus-12-1.7 and ant 1.6.5. I am running the test
scripts on Tomcat 5.5.23.... The build script successfully generates the
war and cactify war file, however it hangs while executing the test
cases. It displays the message as shown below:

test:
   [cactus]
-----------------------------------------------------------------
   [cactus] Running tests against Tomcat 5.5.23 @ http://localhost:8080
   [cactus]
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Please let me know if anybody has come across this issue.. I am not
getting any clue as nothing is getting generated in logs anywhere...
Quick response is much appreciated...

Thanks
Sujeet
