Subject: Let me explain Dear Cafe Andorra People:
My wife & I spent 6 1/2
weeks in Spain, S. France, las islas baleras & Andorra last Fall. She
speaks excellent French & a little Spanish. I speak Spanish somewhat,
& a little French. Neither of us are fluent in Catalan, although the
folks in Barcelona rubbed our noses in that (American idiom).--Like pretending
not to understand when I said something in perfect Spanish.
We sure loved Andorra, both the
scenery & the people, although the money, money & more money really
shocked us. (We are not poor by any means, just surprised.) We are
both Americans, I grew up in Wisconsin, she in New Jersy. We now live in
Arizona, because our only son, Scott is on the staff of AZ State Univ.
there. But we are not Gringos nor Ugly Americans, believe me!
We hope to return to Andorra, as
I really enjoyed this wonderful country. I also want to visit the other
overlooked country of the Iberian Peninsula, Gibraltar, as my late father was
stationed there while serving in the American Navy during WWI (or as you say,
the "Great War".) I'd also like to visit the fascinatining archaeological
dig, the "last stand of the Neanderthals," also located at Gibraltar, as
archaeology is my hobby. Nancy, my wife, also wants to see Carcassone, in
France, & I'd like to return to las Islas Baleras, especially Mallorca,
where we stayed in the Hotel Sabena, where everyone else but one spoke German,
the language of my ancestors. (Remember, scratch an American &
you find a European, except for our few true natives.)
OK, I've
bared my soul for you folks now. As I tell folks in America, all 30
million of my fellow Americans who speak Spanish, "Usted no es un pendejo; yo no
soy un pendejo tampoco."

OK, I've bared my soul for you
folks.
