In the old world it would be an '/etc/hostname.<interface>' file with the
hostname in it and a '/etc/hosts' entry for that hostname also
'/etc/nodename' probably. In case of trouble with electricity or core
routers dhcp is usually not available though most of the machines could
run happily ...
