Umpf... ~/.bashrc and ~/.kshrc are for interactive shells while ~/.profile and ~/.bash_profile are for login shells. Therefore: 1. If you want to setup something for a users login (special temp. dir, print /etc/motd etc.) then use ~/.profile or ~/.bash_profile 2.
