Hi Sundar,
based on the set of discussions happening last week, I have some additional
comments reflecting the changes in areas we discussed.
1.2 DNS Unicast support
Since it was identified that more research is desired in this area,
support unicast DNS is to be postponed for later. In order to address
problem with AI service discovery being limited to one subnet, fallback
mechanism part will be implemented for now - machine address along with
port number will be made available to the AI client via configuration
files and will be used in cases, when multicast DNS fails.
New option 'install-service_address' containing install service
location will be introduced and will be made available via GRUB menu.lst
(for x86) or install.conf (for Sparc) to AI client.
When discussing this solution, some concerns were raised which will have
to be addressed in longer term:
* it has to be made sure that GRUB menu.lst is not overloaded
* Sparc install.conf file is just temporary solution, since
it is stored in AI image area
- we would like to keep AI image read-only (then it could be
loopback mounted from ISO without need to unpack it on the target)
- having install.conf tied to particular image creates 1:1 relationship
between AI image and particular service, which might not be desired
behavior (this limitation doesn't exist for x86)
The solution for this problem might be to introduce configuration file
which would be implemented in the same way for both x86 and Sparc
and store it in more appropriate area.
1.5 Enhance Server Tools Reporting
I think it was decided that support for 'installadm list' is to be postponed
for later release.
Thank you,
Jan
