This is not a supported approach -- there is no currently supported approach. However, anything that we add is likely to look like this, rather than a server-side solution. I could be convinced that "contents" should be extended to be able to construct an image plan for some sort of recursive form, or I could be convinced that "install" should be extended to provide parseable output.
