One of the things I've been tinkering with for a while now is an
interactive jumpstart profile builder as part of my solview tool,
available from:

http://www.petertribble.co.uk/Solaris/solview.html

The latest version (0.41) has a working - but very rudimentary -
capability of building jumpstart profiles. It's probably got more
bugs in it than your average rainforest, but it's actually quite
fun...

To use, unpack and cd into the solview-0.41 directory. Run
solview with the profile subcommand and the path to a Solaris
media Product directory (that has got a .clustertoc file in it).
For example, I use:

./solview profile /export/install/nv70/Solaris_11/Product

select a starting metacluster, and hit customize to move on.

You can customize from a tree view (which includes te
clusters) or from a list of packages. To customize, select
something and then go to the Customize tab, and if it
can be added or deleted there'll be a button at the bottom
you can hit. (The checkboxes in the tree and list look like
they should be clickable but aren't yet. Worse, they don't
update properly, and neither does the state of the customize
tab.) It'll add dependencies automatically, which is sort
of the whole point.

When you want to see what you've got, go to the output
tab and hit display. (It doesn't automatically update - sorry!)

I find it quite fun to start with something like SUNWCrnet, add
the web browser, and see how many dependencies it pulls in.

While it was originally written to make it easier for me to
create self-consistent jumpstart profiles without the usual
trial-and-error approach, I can see that something like
this might help produce a self-consistent set of packages
for slim install, and isn't that different from some sort of
distro constructor.

Anyway, I hope that it's of some use, and I would be
interested to see what people think of it.
