The integration of the fix for defect 10039 provides
a new feature in the Automated Installer. The Automated
Installer x86/SPARC ISO and (new) USB images are now bootable
standalone. This provides for the following benefits:
a) The AI media can now be booted standalone without
needing to setup an AI server/services. The machine
will boot from such media and proceed to do an
Automated Install from an IPS repo. Either a
default manifest (pointing to pkg.opensolaris.org/release)
can be used or a custom manifest can be used to
specify the installation parameters.
b) On SPARC machines not capable of doing wanboot, the AI
media can be directly booted and an OpenSolaris install
done using that media.
c) The AI media can also be used as a rescue disk. A machine
can be booted off of it and the appropriate options chosen
to boot into console-login. Repair/diagnostic procedures
can be carried out thereafter.
d) An xVM PV install can now be done without needing to setup
an AI server/services. xvm version 3.2.2 is known to work at
this time.
Have at it!
