Here's some data for microroot
  
gzip            49MB  
gzip-9         49MB (the change was very little)
7za             48MB
z7a -mx9    47MB

However the decompression times changed. I used gunzip for  cases here.
gzip-9
        real    0m1.77s
        user    0m1.39s
        sys     0m0.35s

7za-mx9
        real    0m1.89s
        user    0m1.60s
        sys     0m0.26s
