The only issue with the current cpio-based install approach is that some 
of the files in the live image have been modified and so that would skew 
the size of the install plan (only slightly though) if it was calculated 
based off the live image.

Otherwise, IPS shouldn't have an issue with either approach.  It 
calculates exactly what is needed from the image you point it at.
