There are significant differences between SXCE and OpenSolaris releases right now. While the initial focus of OpenSolaris has been for Desktop users, i.e. the enhancements are most visible to Desktop users, I would not characterize SXCE as a server edition and OpenSolaris as a desktop edition.
Here are few highlights. - Opensolaris bits are redistributable. Whereas SXCE are not. - OpenSolaris uses the new pkg scheme (ipkg) whereas SXCE uses SVR4 pkgs. Note one can still install SVR4 pkgs on OpenSolaris. - Only ZFS root is supported. - LiveCD support for exists for x86 on OpenSolaris - We are working on OpenSolaris support for Sparc and it should be available soon. - Jumpstart in SXCE is being replaced by AI - and perhaps more relevant to your question, the distro_constructor which can be installed on OpenSolaris, builds OpenSolaris based ISOs. Even though you could build your own pkging repo for 103, ? would recommend that build the ones that have been delivered (i.e. 101). -Sanjay > I could trim down and customize opensolaris 08.11 and also wanted to do the > same with solaris express. So posted on the forum. > > Downloaded the code you have written and going through it.
