Hi Ethan,

Yes, we talk about this with Jan before 200906 release was done, Bug 4546 is
denned on ability of PKG to return "real installed size (including deep dive
into clusters) plus repos metadata size plus cache size ...", looks this is not
done yet for OSOL201003 target ?

To allow install on small disks also IPS cache location separation from
installed system will be welcome, I already flle a bug for it.

In this monitoring AI needs bug is:

8562 - Blocker bug for AI Client design work
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=8562

Also a bug:

10115 - AI ignores desired swap listed in ai manifest
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=10115

For such reduced install sizes will be good it user really can specify all
needed sizes and disable all AUTOMATIC sizes calculations with added 'magic
need to have to work values' plus to able delete IPS cache after each package
installation. PKG cache eating during installation a large portion of disk
size. Generally suer must be able to disable this feature:

8575 AI should verify slice/pool size is big enough before going on with
installation
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=8575

And implement this RFE so users can easily profile needed real size:

5761 Add into AI IPS PKGs install observability (dry run, dependecies, stats)
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=5761

Also we need to be able to specify specific sizes for disk, but with need of to
specify some concrete disk path, so same one AI manifest will still be
installable on similar HW with different disk paths

PS: There is already complain about default 12GB need :

7544 12Gb minimum disk requirement is too restrictive
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=7544

Nice day
Rudolf
