Thanks.  So it looks like I have to deal with the code in strplumb.c 
(and specifically the way the code that uses matchmac finds the 
interface by looking at a few things... mostly the source MAC address, 
but also a few other properties).  This is going to make things a bit 
more difficult for me, but I've a few ideas now.

(The tricky part was figuring out how the SI_DHCP_CACHE was configured, 
and specifically the interface name.)
