Depends on the task, doesn't it?  Hopefully you don't use it to change 
the root password, just use passwd instead.  Likewise, if you're just 
reconfiguring some networking settings (or a similar single-area task), 
probably use Network Manager or the forthcoming NWAM UI or something of 
that ilk.  Yes, in many cases we need better CLI's, too.

If you want to reconfigure broad sets of system services, the SMF 
Enhanced Profiles project is providing the mechanism, there may or may 
not be some tools required beyond what they're planning.  I wouldn't 
rule out repurposing the sys-unconfig command to do a specific profile 
application which somewhat approximates the original intent of 
sys-unconfig, but I'm not going to make commitments on their behalf.
