It would be nice if 'valid' was a little more descriptive.
'valid_service' or 'valid_svc'.

Testing:
With new code, traceback and double error messages no longer occur
with same set-service command and and alias is left disabled as expected.
Attempting to enable the disabled alias results in appropriate error
messages.
Once manifest is made compliant to new base image, alias can be
enabled and
set-service can be used to update the base service back and forth from
the
original base service to the new one.
