How would the Cake database sessions help? Wouldn't there still be a browser component (cookie, URL key) that would go away at the end of the browser session?
Otherwise, I'll try what you suggested. The encryption class you supplied looks like just the thing. Do you know how to make sure all actions (i.e. all URLs) use the cookie for the base URL instead of generating new cookies?
