you could also use it in conjunction with requestAction to grab data
from a controller outside the current scope, like so:

$this->renderElement('some_element',
array('data'=>$this->requestionAction ('/news/list_recent_news')); ?>

or, you could place the request action into the element intself, so it
becomes entirely self contained
