Don't worry the "standard". The "app/controllers/pages_controller.php" is for the project named "app" only. It will effect this project only.
If you want to build another project, say "myProjectXXX". You can copy whole "app" folder and rename it as "myProjectXXX". Then your cake/ can works for two different projects. This new project has its own "controllers/pages_controller.php". /workspace /app /myProjectXXX /cake /vendors BTW, I am also a new cake fan. Just for 3 months.
