Yes, Dave also suggested that the maps issue was unrelated to cakephp, but 
that a number of other problems were related.

I agree that the radio button needs a default setting, but once selected 
 ...  should remain where set until that search session is over  ...  and 
it does not do that. 

I have now employed Dave to repair the code and he is making great strides. 
It is great to see it moving forward at last.
