Found the Answer by myself. It seems, a dedicated disconnect is needed
after the server was gone away.
try {
$newE = $this->newEntity($newRecA);
$retVal = $this->save($newE);
} catch (\PDOException $ex) {
$this->connection()->disconnect();
}
