Might be useful to start with directed documentation.

For example, one can start a thread in this forum called: "What
specifically would you like to see documented?" and you would get a
grassroots idea of the areas which are unclear, and the particular
aspects of the system which need to be better explained. Beats
guessing.

If people wanted to help the documenters, even without documenting,
they could find the relevant threads in this forum, and paste the links
in their post. This would help the documenters get a fuller picture of
the question, and get a head start with the answers provided in the
threads.

Truth is, most of the points of confusion are raised and answered on
this forum. So,  if someone just went through the posts and wrote down
the questions asked, and made a FAQ, I'm sure that would go 99% of the
way to improving the situation.
