I found that there was a decent amount of work going from 1.1.x.x to 1.2.x.x. A lot of the html helper functions were deprecated and moved into the form helper.
I think that the amount of new features make the transition worth it, though. If you do decide to use 1.2.x.x, either grab the latest nightly build, or check out directly from the svn branch of 1.2.x.x.
