Learning to say "no" to a request is the toughest thing a developer has to learn how to do. Just because a project is open source doesn't mean every request has to be accommodated. I suggest you go over to trac.cakephp.org and file a ticket under 'enhancments' if you feel that this is a worthwhile thing to have.
