Convention seems to be pointing towards: <table> <thead><tr><th>Column header</th><tr></thead> <tbody><tr><td>Column data</td></tr></tbody> </table>
Which is not what most of us are used to, but it is better in the long run. Follow that type of markup for your tables, and you'll find that you can drop in any kind of JS library fanciness.
