Further to Adrian Gould's post below which was posted on the wrong thread...
I had a similar problem with my fieldname 'followupdate'. It might be a good idea to have a list of reserved names which shouldn't be included in fieldnames. However, once you are aware of the problem, you are probably more careful in considering your choice of fieldname. Having had my previous experience, 'personal_identifier' would certainly get my alarm bell ringing, but I'm sure this would catch out quite a few people.
