hehe, takes me back to last month when i started using cake.  Pretty
much had all the same issues.

Are you using MySql?  if so you should run a phpinfo script to see if
PHP recognizes it.

Also if you are using MySql (I'm pretty sure that phpMyAdmin uses
MySql) consider using sqlyog for creating and managing your database:

www.webyog.com/en/downloads.php

Could also help if you post your database.php file and it's current
location.
