Yes, CakePhP is lacking a great amount of documentation, you're not
alone in that boat.  I guess the best ways to get to learn it is
either completing tutorials or reading the source code.  I must agree
that reading the documentation on cakephp.org gets somewhat
frustrating sometimes, especially if you're starting with it, but on
the other hand users here are very active, and even some of the
developers hang out on this group to answer questions from time to
time.

I must of posted this link at least a dozen time, but what the heck,
it's a great 12 part tutorial that covers everything to get your first
cakePHP application running.  If you have a free afternoon, it's worth
the time.

At the rate CakePHP is growing in popularity, I bet we'll see a
perfected Cookbook in the near future.
