If you set the timeout to 260, it's still going to time out after 4 minutes and 20 seconds of inactivity. If you want people to be able to leave their desk and come back the next day and still have the session active, you'll need to set it to something way higher (try 60*60*24).
Also, if you are deleting your cookies (a lot of anti-spyware programs do this) or using a private browsing option in your browser, it's going to destroy your session as well. There are also some plugins for Firefox that let you monitor HTTP headers so that you can debug potential issues with the session_id cookie.
