Just to provide some more information, since the hang up seems to be this
"No Principal found for UID: admin" I did some more investigations and
noticed this entry under the very first "{DAV:}acl" while browsing the
calendars by browser:

<href>/principals/__uids__/admin/</href>

<privilege>
<all/>
</privilege>
</grant>
<protected/>
<inheritable xmlns='http://twistedmatrix.com/xml_namespace/dav/'/>
</ace>
<ace>
Every user seems to have this entry and its the only "admin" reference I
am finding so far that correlates to the errors.
