Virtually all laptops and net books now ship with similar capabilities to smart
phones and tablets including cameras, Bluetooth, etc.
Metro sees the start of the app that will work on the desktop as well as the
mobile device. Even the Mac app store is delivering apps to the desktop in the
same way as they are delivered to the device.
For existing PhoneGap app developers who do not want to migrate to Metro then a
desktop component is essential.
For enterprise apps (where I am interested) a PhoneGap for Windows will provide
a solution before, through and beyond any Windows 8 roll out which could take
anything up to 3 years.
A consistent framework across all platforms will be essential as the "gap" (pun
intended) between smartphone, tablet and PC diminishes.
