I have never seen this. Some dances have a fiddle case open collecting admissions, and sometimes as informal as "$X dollars in cash or barter". Some dances are "bought out" by sponsors, and an optional donation is solicited to help defray expenses.
I have seen optional collections for the "Floor refinishing fund" or whatever. But (happily) I have never, ever, seen a collection for tips.
